Triune Sacrifice – part II
The promise of the Presence of God requires a triune sacrifice:
As we have seen in the first part, which is the Spiritual Sacrifice (click here and read it).
The second thing that we should sacrifice before going up to Mount Sinai – (the Altar) is the Emotional Sacrifice.
“Now before him, there was no king like him, – (he stripped himself of appearances, of ornaments and converted)
who turned to the Lord with all his heart, – (spiritual sacrifice)
with all his soul, – (emotional sacrifice)
and with all his might, – (material sacrifice)
according to all the Law of Moses; – (as God commanded on Mount Sinai) nor after him did any arise like him.” (II Kings 23:25)
This second level of emotional sacrifice implies detachment. To detach yourself from:
- People
- Things
- Places,
- Titles
- Traditions
- Habits
- ..
- Detach yourself of everything that you are emotionally attached to, such as inappropriate sentimental relationships: premature dating, obscenity, exchanging “nudes”, obscene words, sexual relations before marriage, pornography, masturbation, drunkenness …
- Set yourself free from the desire to tattoo your body, piercing, self-harm…
- Depart from friendships that lead you to sin, bad things, mistakes, to the old and dirty life.
- Sacrifice your will, your desires, your pride.
- Forgive who offended you.
- Leave aside sentimentality, the habit of victimising, excluding and condemning yourself.
- Don’t resist the changes that God has already asked, let go of your own will that harms you.
- Abandon thoughts and ideas such as: “I am like this!”, “It’s my nature”, “I can’t change”, “I have tried before …”
- Stop being resistant to the necessary changes in your way of being, thinking, acting, believing, serving God, living.
This emotional sacrifice is to God and for God, but it will do very good to you.
Jesus said:
“For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; and a man’s enemies will be those of his household.’ He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.” Matthew 10:35-39
